City Development Corporation

“We measure our success in terms of social, environmental,
cultural and community progress as well as financial results”

SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Surrey is currently the second largest city in the Lower Mainland and is on course to become the largest city in British Columbia. It is also on track to become the second downtown core in Metro Vancouver complementing the City of Vancouver’s central business district. As it follows this path, the City of Surrey is committed to creating a sustainable, livable city with a vibrant downtown, a thriving cultural community, a strong economy and a preserved, protected and improved environment.

The Surrey City Development Corporation was established to help Surrey build this world class community.

SURREY CITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Established in 2007, Surrey City Development Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Surrey with a mandate to initiate, lead and facilitate real estate developments to create community, social, environmental, cultural, economic and financial benefits for the City of Surrey.

The Surrey City Development Corporation was created in the belief that a city-owned corporation, with seasoned real estate expertise, taking a private sector approach, could help achieve strategic community objectives, optimize the use and value of city-owned lands, leverage civic facilities to encourage private sector projects and produce long term financial returns to the City.

We are currently working on the City of Surrey’s Campbell Heights Lands as a part of Surrey’s Employment Lands Strategy, we are leading the planning for Surrey’s City Centre project and are involved in a couple of smaller joint venture projects with private sector partners.

DECISION MAKING

The development corporation is owned by, but is not part of the City of Surrey. We follow the same project approval process as the private sector.

Our Board includes Mayor Dianne Watts, Councillor Linda Hepner,
City Manager Murray Dinwoodie and five independent directors;
Ken Nixon, Allan Davies, Michael Geller, Hugh Matthews and Milton Wong.
